PHOTO SHOOT
We had a photo shoot with the main artist for our CD covers and the magazine advert. We went with a black background to match the back cover we already had a picture for. The use of the black jumper is so that she blends into the background and the main focus is on her face - the main selling point of our artist. Her hair was pulled back so there was no distraction from her face and the make up was simple so we could edit the picture to create the main focus as the lips.
We took a number of different pictures and below are our decisions on each one.
We decided not to use this picture as her expression is bland and neutral and not captivating enough to entice audiences to buy the album.
We liked this shot as her expression is mysterious and you can't tell what she is thinking, making the audience think that by buying the album they will get an insight to what is going on. However we chose not to use this image as the front on shot would be more expressive. The lighting isn't what we wanted it to be either.
We thought a shot of her looking up to a corner could be conventional as its a common pose among teenage girls who are our target audience. However the expression on her face does not match the mood we're trying to create with the album.
This was a test shot with effects on the camera, we feel that this gives a sort of pop art effect which is a convention similar to Madonna's greatest hits album cover. However the quality is not what we wanted for our cover.
This was a creepy shot as her eyes look all black which follows the conventions of metal music rather than the pop genre we are trying to convey.
We feel that this shot shows a fun side of the artist but the lack of eye contact makes the shot less captivating and inviting to audiences.
With this image the focus is completely on the eyes, though the shot is creative and slightly seductive we feel it could come across as threatening.
This is the final picture we chose for our magazine cover. We feel that this image is unconventional and different from the norm. By having the artist in the centre of the picture looking at the camera, it captures the audience and looks as if the artist is looking at the viewer personally. The face is the main focus as this is the selling point of our album (the artist herself) Also, the necklace is in full view and we feel that we could do something creative with it. Her eyes are widened and with the red lip colour, both her lips and eyes are the main focus, which we like. This is because the lips are also used in the music video as a main focus. We feel that in a magazine this shot would stand out and make readers want to know what the advert is for a and then potentially buy the album itself. Simple, yet effective.
We really liked this shot for our CD cover. This is because we feel that it connects with the audience due to her eye contact and her expression being sultry and slightly mysterious, making the audience wonder what she is thinking and that they will understand her by buying the album. Her lips, again are bold which we feel we could focus on in a big way as the lips are a part of the music video as well, similar to the magazine cover creating a cohesive flow within the magazine advert, the CD cover and the video itself.. Her face is highlighted and everything else is blended into the background making her the main focus yet again.
