Jessie J Do it like a Dude
Jessie J - Do it Like a Dude
Jessie J's video to her first single 'Do it like a Dude', directed by Emil Nava, is one of my favourite modern music videos. I enjoy watching this music video because I find it really edgy and different and the artist's confidence in herself is evident throughout the video.
The lyrics are conveyed throughout the video through the various costume worn by Jessie J and everyone in the video as women who are dressing like men or "dudes".
In relation to costume and make up used, they aren't conventionally fashions found in everyday life worn by regular people, giving the video a sense of individualism and entertainment for viewers as they are watching something they wouldn't normally see.
There are various changes in costume as well as location within the video. None of the locations or sets look particularly clean which conveys how women are also able to "slum it" like men can.
There are a large number of close-ups and extreme close-ups on the artist in various angles as she sings which also portrays the edginess of the song and artist herself. The shots vary from extreme close ups, to long shots of a location to mid shots of a choreographed dance routine showing the variety within this song and what this artist can do.
The camera shots also vary between fast and slow pacing which goes with the tempo of the song and again showing ruggedness and messiness.
There are a large number of sharp angles and shots which match the harshness of the beat as it enters.
